helpful discussions and the referees for thorough reviews of earlier drafts. 2 ABSTRACT Various estimators of slope,· intercept, and mean response in the simple linear regression problem are compared in terms of unbiasedness, efficiency, breakdown, and mean squared error. Theil's estimator of slope and two intercept estimators based on Theil's estimator are recommended for inclusion in nonparametrics courses as robust, efficient, and easy-to-calculate alternatives to least-squares.

Differenced-Based Double Shrinking in Partial Linear Models
Partial linear model is very flexible when the relation between the covariates and responses, either parametric and nonparametric. However, estimation of the regression coefficients is challenging since one must also estimate the nonparametric component simultaneously. As a remedy, the differencing approach, to eliminate the nonparametric component and estimate the regression coefficients, can ...

In arid and semi-arid ecosystems shortage of surface water has led to a greater use of groundwater resources. Water table in groundwater due to climate and human intervention is always fluctuating. Assessing change groundwater resource in planning and sustainable management of water resources in each region has of great importance. In this study were investigated changes of water table in the p...
متن کاملPassing-Bablok Regression for Method Comparison
Passing-Bablok regression for method comparison is a robust, nonparametric method for fitting a straight line to two-dimensional data where both variables, X and Y, are measured with error. It is useful when you have two devices that should give the same measurements and you want to compare them. This is accomplished by test estimate a linear regression line and testing whether the intercept is...
متن کاملTopics in Non - Parametric Statistics
The subject of Nonparametric statistics is statistical inference applied to noisy observations of infinite-dimensional “parameters” like images and time-dependent signals. This is a mathematical area on the border between Statistics and Functional Analysis, the latter name taken in its “literal” meaning – as geometry of spaces of functions. What follows is the 8-lecture course given by the auth...

In many applications the quality of a process or product is best characterized and summarized by a functional relationship between a response variable and one or more explanatory variables. Profile monitoring is used to understand and to check the stability of this relationship over time. Therefore checking the capability of a profile seems essential. Process capability indices have become very...
